Nacida en 1970, Vishakha Shinde se sumergió desde su infancia en el singular e intrincado arte de la pintura con hojas de árbol de pipal, una tradición iniciada por su visionario padre. Born in 1970 Vishakha Shinde was immersed from childhood in the rare and intricate craft of pipal tree leaf painting, a tradition pioneered by her visionary father. Their home was more than a studio; it was a living sanctuary where fragile pipal leaves were transformed into timeless masterpieces.
A distinguished alumna of Sir J.J. School of Art, Vishakha holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Art. Her artistry stands at the confluence of heritage and innovation. Honored with the esteemed Best Portrait Award by the Art Society of India, she has recreated legendary masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, Resurrection, and Raphael’s Madonna – not on conventional canvas, but on the living, breathing texture of real pipal leaves. Among her significant achievements, her commissioned portrait of Blessed Frédéric Ozaniam was presented to Pope John Paul II during the Beatification Ceremony in 1997.

Through her Krishna Women’s Handicraft Society, Vishakha Lad preserves and reimagines the endangered tradition of pipal leaf painting, empowering underprivileged women with artistry and dignity.

TÉCNICA DE LA PINTURA DE PIPAL
Pintar hojas del árbol de pipal es un legado sagrado arraigado en la reverencia por la naturaleza y la delicadeza de la tradición india.
Las hojas maduras de pipal se recolectan a mano en grandes cantidades y se sumergen en barriles de agua durante 15 a 20 días. Mediante una suave fermentación, sus capas externas se desintegran naturalmente, revelando un frágil esqueleto con forma de encaje. Cada hoja se cepilla delicadamente para limpiarla y secarla, antes de clasificarlas por tamaño, de la más delgada a la más ancha, cada una elegida para armonizar con el tema que representará.
Las hojas se convierten en un lienzo vivo. Se pinta lentamente por capas, en un proceso tranquilo y meditativo que se desarrolla a lo largo de los días. Una vez enmarcadas bajo metacrilato, estas delicadas hojas se conservan en perfectas condiciones durante años.

TECHNIQUE OF PIPAL PAINTING
Pipal tree leaf painting is a sacred legacy rooted in reverence for nature and the finesse of Indian tradition.
Mature pipal leaves are hand picked in large quantities and immersed in barrels of water for 15-20 days. Through gentle fermentation, their outer layers naturally disintegrate, revealing a fragile lace-like skeleton. Each leaf is then delicately brushed clean and dried, before being sorted by size-form, the most slender to the broadest, each chosen to harmonize with the subject it will hold.
The leaves become a living canvas. It is painted slowly in layers, a quiet, meditative process that unfolds over days. Once framed under methacrylate, these delicate leaves remain beautifully preserved for years.
